- Fremont, CA March 24, 1993 -- SyQuest Technology (SYQT-NASDAQ) today announced
- that the company's 3.5-inch, 110MB removable hard cartridge drive SCSI version,
- the SQ3105S, has begun shipping to all integrators and distributors worldwide.
-
- “The increase of multimedia use in the broadcast, music, sales, and education
- markets has created a large demand for the new SQ3105S with its exceptional
- transfer rate of up to 4MB per second and high capacity. These are both
- critical factors in multimedia applications in the Macintosh market,” said
- Richard Green, SyQuest's director of marketing. “Coupled with the primary
- removable storage benefits of easy transport and data exchange, we're seeing
- significant market interest and acceptance. This matches the enthusiasm
- generated by the AT version when it started shipping last year.” The drive for
- desktop, laptop and notebook computers features SyQuest's high performance
- reliability-proven removable Winchester technology and a 100,000 hour MTBF
- (Mean Time Between Failure) rating.
-
- Joel Levine, vice president of marketing, also expects the SQ3105S to be
- popular for CAD/CAM, imaging, graphics, back-up and projects requiring data
- privacy. “While we've developed the 3.5-inch unit for applications that
- require very high performance drives in a small form factor, we plan to
- continue to develop new 5.25-inch drives, which are the desktop publishing
- standard worldwide. We expect our 3.5-inch drive to complement, not replace,
- our 5.25 inch products,” added Levine. “The application will dictate which
- SyQuest drive end-users will choose.” The 3.5-inch 110MB SQ3105S boasts an
- average access time of less than 14.5 msecs., matching the current high
- performance of Winchester fixed disk drives.
-
- It averages less than 3 watts of power and requires only a single 5 volt power
- source. Ideal for desktop and laptop computers, SyQuest's SQ3105S offers users
- unlimited capacity with the compelling user benefits of removable drive
- technology data security, organization, transportability, backup and fault
- tolerance capabilities -- packaged in an industry standard 1-inch height.
- Each cartridge can store up to 110MB to meet the requirements of new
- applications running on increasingly popular high speed 386 and 486
- microprocessor systems.
